Our journey began with a single, burning question: &#8220;What could &#8216;sexy&#8217; look like in 2026?&#8221;. While the possibilities are endless, this post explores our team\u2019s initial reactions and the creative evolution that led us to our current goal of a high-concept installation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-logo-pin-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-6dbd3b57c1c51f9d123f248b13aef853\">Background:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a142fe4bcef6c9971cf40ab57ea1f2d0\">&#8220;Sexy&#8221; has been a common theme games for all of time, but particularly within the context of classic pinball. This may come as no surprise, but a lot of pre-2000s Pinball machines can be a bit risqu\u00e9, suggestive, and do often tend to objectify women. When starting  our project our team wanted agreed we would not be building anything akin to pre-2000s &#8220;sexy pinball&#8221; style. Their reason for being sexy is often just to appeal to players wants, fantasies etc. to sell characters, skins, and cosmetics. There is quite a wide range when it comes to this type of game, but one aggressively sexy example is Gun Goddess Nikke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" data-id=\"356\" src=\"https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/aneny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GpBwY7WWsAAKq5o-1-576x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/aneny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GpBwY7WWsAAKq5o-1-576x1024.jpg 576w, https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/aneny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GpBwY7WWsAAKq5o-1-169x300.jpg 169w, https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/aneny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/GpBwY7WWsAAKq5o-1.jpg 675w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:3px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7faec1e33c68c01c028cec45a21dbf0e\"><br><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-custom-logo-pin-color\">Casual Appeal: <\/mark><\/strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-custom-logo-pin-color\">Action, Adventure, Character Focused<\/mark><br>Some games like to add a little pizzaz while you play, this type of sexy often makes no impact on the gameplay but is there just for the player to look at. This is the type of sexy addition that has sparked the most debate online in recent years. They tend to objectify the parts and act of sex to the point of it becoming something funny, not hot. Sex or attraction in this type of game plays a role in directing the actions of characters and subsequently the outcome of the narrative. These games often can have a wide range of themes, but generally focus their use of sex into the story rather then their gameplay or as a visual alone. We didn&#8217;t want to steer away from any of the realities of sex. We didn&#8217;t want to use it as a joke, to sell anything, we wanted to explore the power and definition of sex, and to do that we needed to know what sex was and a message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:51px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-custom-logo-pin-color has-text-color has-link-color has-large-font-size wp-elements-87d48cb879814f929de2d7accafa3d4a\">So&#8230; What is our message?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eac1066de5f5837c5c79aba58460eadf\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#ffffff\" class=\"has-inline-color\">Sex as we see it in 2026 is something that is being designed and mass produced as a tool to help people cope with the stress of daily life.<\/mark> <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-custom-logo-pin-color\">We want to play off of the tension between seeing these mass produced items as, what they are, objects meant to appeal, and the things you use them for, comfort, love, distraction, fulfillment, etc.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:74px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This week, we refined our project\u2019s core concept and the message we want to send.
