This week, our team continued to develop the Truth or Lie pre-game phase and created a new “move a lot” game: an asynchronous fitness battle. In this game, friends can challenge each other, stay connected and motivated, and engage in healthy competition, all at their own convenience in terms of time and location.
Game Design:
Originally, we envisioned a fitness game called the barking chasing game. However, after evaluating its implementation and practicality, we identified a few unavoidable limitations, such as the need for significant space and challenges in providing real-time feedback to players during movement.
Based on feedback from the halves, we were encouraged to explore a third game idea. This new game moves away from the one-time party game format and instead offers a long-term asynchronous experience, marking a shift from our previous designs. As these are two distinct types of games, we decided not to combine them into one app as a game suite. Instead, we will create two separate games, both of which will utilize Apple Watch’s features as the foundation for their game mechanics.
Currently, we are still in the ideation phase and need to clarify the game logic for the new fitness game.
Design & Art:
- We are finalizing the pre-game UX design. With two separate apps, we removed the game selection feature, and the otter-picking section can be reused in the pre-game phase of the other game.
- We are building a website to archive the work from our current semester.
- For poster and logo design, we have developed several variations of an otter-driven logo. The logo will serve as an iconified and recognizable representation of our otter-themed game brand.
- The poster will feature six otters, each representing one of our team members’ characteristics. This design will symbolize both our team and our game. The art style will be 2D, with bright colors, rounded shapes, and otter illustrations to maintain consistency with the overall theme.

Programming:
- We have built a fully functional demo that allows players to create and join game rooms seamlessly on their phones. This is a critical feature as it sets the stage for multiplayer experiences, ensuring players can easily connect and get started with the game.
- In addition to the onboarding and setup demo, we are actively working on constructing additional views for both phone and watch interfaces. As our project integrates mobile and wearable devices, it is crucial that both platforms have a cohesive and complementary user experience.
- Lastly, we have also prepared a demo showcasing the core mechanics of the fitness game. This demo highlights the main gameplay elements and mechanics, which is the round-based fitness challenge game to encourage players to do exercises regularly.
