Week 13: April 12th – April 18th

We kicked off the week with our Soft Opening presentation, where the faculty came around and viewed our work at the current place it was at. Softs overall went very decently for us. The faculty were able to understand roughly what we were working on and they provided us with actionable feedback that we could implement by finals, mainly focusing on how we can enhance user immersion in the experience we have.

One test that Ean did this week was substituting the TV as a green-screen with green construction paper to reduce the amount of light that would be reflected off the Lego Set. This ended up working well enough when Esther adjusted the chroma-key, so for more robustness he painted a piece of cardboard  and attached the paper to it to act as a more robust base.

To prevent people from trying to get into the doors or up the stairs, Harley added colliders throughout the hallway as a quick fix and so the players would stay grounded into the hallways.

In order to have more pauses through the level, Arthur started looking into the voting system to allow for some player choice in the level.

Esther worked on editing the pre-recorded footage down into videos that we could cut between in OBS to provide more visual variety during the livestream.

Ean worked on recording human and zombie sound effects that could be spliced into the videos, some of which can be found below.

The week was capped off with Alumni Day where ETC alumni would tour around and take a look at everyone’s projects. Unfortunately for us, we weren’t able to have the alumni play through our experience due to Fortnite’s servers being down.
