Week 1: January 11th – January 17th

Kicking the week off, some of our team visited CodeJoy, one of the big inspirations for our project. Codejoy focuses on creating interactive educational programs over livestream where kids send in code to make simple robots move. We were able to observe CodeJoy handling their process and get a lot of inspiration for our own.

On Friday, we met with our client, John Balash, and discussed what his deliverable for the project was. He was looking for a five minute short that blended physical and digital Lego elements as a proof of concept for a technical innovation in broadcast TV. We discussed what demographic and rough core that we wanted for it, and we landed on a middle school demographic with a socioemotional core to it. We also decided we wanted some kind of basic narrative to facilitate the experience along.

We also had the opportunity to explore the space we working in this semester, the Green Screen Room and figuring out how we wanted to set up everything in there and what equipment we needed.

Friday was also our Playtest to Explore workshop where our peers came around and gave feedback on the rough ideas we had at this time, and they had some good insights for what we could do.
