Weekly Overview
This week marks the beginning of our first production phase. We are setting up our production environment using LED screens and configuring the display in Unreal Engine, while creating assets inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Our work is divided into two main areas: one team is focusing on refining the production pipeline, while the other is concentrating on content creation. Additionally, we presented our progress during the quarter presentation, receiving valuable feedback from faculty and professors. This feedback has helped us clarify our goals and set a more defined direction for the rest of the semester.
Feedback from Quater Presentation
We also held a quarter presentation where we received detailed feedback from faculty and professors, which helped us refine our approach. Their suggestions emphasized the importance of setting specific, measurable goals for the final product and tailoring it to a well-defined audience. They encouraged us to think beyond just the technical aspects and consider how the project could have a lasting impact. Professors also advised us to focus on creating something with educational value, offering practical benefits for future students. This feedback prompted us to revisit our research on virtual production, leading us to pivot our goals slightly. Now, rather than aiming for a one-off production piece, we are prioritizing the creation of a sustainable, educational resource that can benefit future ETC students and projects over time.
Ndisplay and Virtual Camera
In-Camera VFX (ICVFX) will be a key technology in our production pipeline. During the first stage, we focused on testing the ICVFX workflow using nDisplay and a virtual camera. We configured nDisplay with a 4K TV to simulate the setup and calibrated the system for real-time streaming and editing through the Switchboard listing. Additionally, we experimented with both the iPhone and the Vive Tracker as potential tracking systems for our pipeline to determine which would offer better performance and accuracy.
