The main goal of this week was to finalize the design for this level and how to most effectively convey the dance moves to a user. Using our preliminary design as a foundation and following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=odC3SpUW6P8&amp;ab_channel=PaulTaylorDance\">a guided video on the back exercise provided by our clients<\/a>, we iterated our key ideas for teaching and came up with the following:<\/p><ul><li>Teaching the dance through <strong>segmented sections<\/strong> to prevent overwhelming the user and allowing them to digest each key component of the exercise<\/li><li>Adding <strong>visual cues<\/strong> through <strong>animated arrows and lines<\/strong> at key poses to demonstrate\u00a0<strong>motion<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>tension<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>release<\/strong><\/li><li>Using <strong>verbal guidance<\/strong> to help guide a user through each pose like in an actual dance class<\/li><li>Highlighting the motions for\u00a0<strong>contraction<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>release<\/strong> to follow the core principles of the Paul Taylor Dance Company<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Then, based on these core ideas, we created <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1iyEQEdbE-_M5weeQgRCCkN7jFyb-JQTC65e7iKSrADU\/edit#slide=id.p\">a presentation<\/a> drafting each of the core moments we picked out from the guided video<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-621a11e elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"621a11e\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-4273962\" data-id=\"4273962\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e219410 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"e219410\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<style>\/*! Unfortunately, the ML model had many limitations in interpreting the poses from the back exercise video, specifically the more extreme motions that were &#8220;unnatural&#8221; for a human to perform normally.<\/p><p>In this week, the first focus was to reduce the noise in the motion generated by the model. Previously, this was being done through Unity via a simple <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kalman_filter\">Kalman Filter<\/a>, which would take into account the positions of previous points in order to &#8220;smooth out&#8221; the later points. However, using a plain filter had the unfortunate side effect of\u00a0<strong>delaying movements<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>reducing their intensity<\/strong>, as peaks and fast motions were mellowed out due to being averaged\/affected by previous points.<\/p><p>To bypass this, we used a different algorithm for removing noise that would be more effective at preserving the motion intensity based on the paper <a href=\"https:\/\/ieeexplore.ieee.org\/stamp\/stamp.jsp?arnumber=9886092\">&#8216;A Denoising Method of Human Pose Estimation Based on Reconstruction from Keyframes&#8217;<\/a> (2022). Here, we swap from being a position-based algorithm to one that is velocity and acceleration based; then, using the mean acceleration throughout the entire video, we filter out points with unreasonable accelerations (usually sudden spikes due to incorrect motion capture). Programming focused on creating the framework for our new tutorial level, and art continued developing our 3D model and UI updates.<\/p><p>For the next week, the entire team expected to be out of town to attend the GDC conference.
