Building on the feedback from last week’s Quarter Review, we refined our target audience and play scenario to ensure our VR experience is both engaging and impactful.
Previous Concept (Before Quarter Review)
- Final Deliverable: A 10-15 minute immersive VR experience designed to inspire players to engage with environmental issues and empower them to take action against climate change.
- Narrative Story: The player shrinks to a miniature size and embarks on an adventure in their backyard, uncovering hidden ecosystems on the brink of collapse. To return to their normal size, they must restore balance and save the environment from destruction.
- Target Audience: 12-18-year-olds
- Play Time: 10-15 minutes
Refined Concept (After Quarter Review
- Final Deliverable: A 10-15 minute immersive VR experience designed to engage younger players in environmental awareness and encourage action against climate change.
- Target Audience:
- Ideal Age: 11-14 years old
- Acceptable Range: 9-11 & 14-16 years old
Defining the Play Scenario
To make the game more accessible and engaging, we established two possible play scenarios:
Ideal Scenario: After-School Clubs & Extracurricular Activities
- A small group of students shares one or two VR headsets.
- Players take turns playing while others observe, discuss strategies, and share feedback in a relaxed, interactive setting.
- Club supervisors facilitate discussions, encouraging environmental awareness and collaboration.
Feasible Scenario: Library or Media Center Sessions
- Students sign up for individual VR playtest slots after school.
- Observers take notes and discuss experiences while waiting for their turn.
- Weekly club meetings allow students who played the game to share insights, fostering peer learning.
By narrowing our audience and play setting, we can better design the game mechanics, pacing, and engagement methods to fit real-world educational environments. Moving forward, our focus will be on refining the core gameplay experience to ensure it aligns with these settings while maintaining its immersive and educational impact.
