The things we’ve done this week:
- Polished the terrain.
- Settled on the general shader for the scene.
- Created a linear experience.
- Playtested with 7 people.
Terrain Style testing
We experimented with 2 kinds of terrain styles. The first one (the top 2 images) looks pretty cool but does not match with the style of our other assets. So we tested again with the second one, and we decided to move forward with this version (the 2 images at the bottom).
Playtest & Gameplay progress
And we brought our prototype to the playtest night on Tuesday (we had pizza. yay!).
We put the mechanis together and created a linear experience on Monday, so I did encountered some bugs during the playtesting.
We got 7 people playtested with us. Here’s the notes we took during the playtest.
- Time spent: 3-4 min
- Takeoff: 28s – 40s (include voiceover & because of the reposition function)
- Fly to the lake: 1: 58 – 2: 00
- Fishing: 15s- 38s
- Bugs we encountered:
- The catching-fish game didn’t happen twice. When the player get too far away from mom eagle, we reposition the player to mom eagle’s back, so sometimes people got repositioned to a point where they could not touch the “start-game collider”.
- After the fishing game, the player starts to move backwards, which happened once. Probably because there’s a collider.
- Feedbacks/the things we were planning to change:
- after repositioning, people don’t need to flap wings again to start flying.
- Mom eagle could be bigger.
- Add a speed-up function.
- Diving could be dizzy for some users.
And here’s the version we revised based on the playtest feedback.
