About

Reimaging Coding Education with HelloAlice

The HelloAlice team is developing a cutting-edge programming education tool in collaboration with the Alice team at Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center. Alice has long been an innovative block-based programming environment, enabling users to create animations, interactive narratives, and simple 3D games with ease. Now, HelloAlice is pushing the boundaries of coding education by introducing a voice-driven programming experience enhanced by AI.

This new tool leverages voice as the primary input method, allowing users to generate code simply by speaking. With AI assistance, players can seamlessly add scripts to craft interactive narratives, eliminating traditional coding learning barriers. As they build their stories, the team envision that players will develop computational thinking skills while engaging in an intuitive and immersive experience.

By making programming cool, accessible, and surprising, we aim to spark curiosity and motivation in learners, just as Alice has always done. Our goal is to create a testable prototype that showcases the potential of AI-driven, voice-assisted programming, opening new possibilities for the future of coding education and inspiring the next generation of programmers.

Our Client

Alice is an innovative block-based programming environment that makes it easy to create animations, build interactive narratives, or program simple games in 3D. Unlike many of the puzzle-based coding applications Alice motivates learning through creative exploration. Alice is designed to teach logical and computational thinking skills, fundamental principles of programming and to be a first exposure to object-oriented programming. The Alice Project provides supplemental tools and materials for teaching using Alice across a spectrum of ages and subject matter with proven benefits in engaging and retaining diverse and underserved groups in computer science education.
