Week 5 – Development

As we progress into Week 5, our team has been focused on developing Prototype 1, integrating functionalities, and preparing for next steps. With key technical and artistic updates, we are ensuring that our tool is both functional and engaging. Additionally, we had a valuable expert interview that provided insights into how to introduce AI concepts to children. Here’s what we’ve accomplished this week.

Production & Research

Eva conducted an SME interview with Jaemarie Solyst, where discussions centered around measuring the effectiveness of our tool and the best ways to introduce AI to kids. These insights will be instrumental in shaping our tool’s design and learning approach. Eva also finalized the Prototype 1 Playtest Plan, which will include both internal and external testing.

Programming Updates

Yifan focused on integrating Interaction Mode, the Script Editor, and Playground Mode, making it possible for these elements to work together seamlessly. Meanwhile, Jinyi introduced several new methods—ShowDialog, ChangeMaterialColor, and SwitchScene—to enhance storytelling flexibility. Jinyi also completed the Playground Mode front-end, integrated different interaction modes, and implemented a character controller for game mode.

Art Progress

Jia worked on creating more assets, integrating them into Unity, and improving the environment to enrich the experience. Wendy contributed by modeling and texturing objects and building the scene for the forest environment. Additionally, Zhanqi finalized the poster and logo, modeled trees and rocks, and refined textures for various assets.

Team Bonding!!

The team spent a dinner at a local hot pot restaurant. Having dinner together allows us to chat and talk about things outside from the project. It was a great night out!

Next Steps

With the Prototype 1 being in development, our next steps involve refining interactions, finalizing the playtesting setup, and ensuring all integrated components function as expected.

This week’s progress has brought us closer to a test-ready prototype. Stay tuned for updates as we move into further iteration!
