Week 1 – Hello World!

Coming back from winter break, the team gathered to get to know each other and started to plan for our project! Spring semester is a unique time for our first years and second years – it’s the first time for the first years to work on a semester-long project, and it’s the last project for our second years. Luckily, our team have equally 3 second years and 3 first years!

The team started the week by having a meeting with our advisor, Dave, and our client, Melaine Lam and Daniel Abeshouse from the Alice Team, to get a better understanding of the project.

It seems that we are facing a really broad problem space, with lots of freedom for us to approach the matter. We are designing an educational tool with interactive experience for students to explore and learn programming concepts along the way. Sounds cool, right?

The team started our brainstorming right away to get closer to our solution. Our brainstorming also prepared us for the Playtest to Explore Workshop.

We did some research about other educational programming learning tool to see what others did well and did not well.

We also did our first keyword brainstorming, to vision what our project should be.

With this, we finished our composition box. During the workshop, we asked “How do you define powerful for kids?” and got really great answers.

Hopefully with these, the team can head to our next step!
