Week 7: Presentations and Revitalization

Week 7 marks halfway through the semester, meaning that our Halves presentation was this week! Since we went first on Monday, we were able to gather feedback quickly and start iterating on our process in accordance.

Halves Feedback

The main pieces of feedback we received this week pertained to our transformational goals and timeline.

The transformational goal on our slide was unclear. We as a team had a clearer transformational goal in mind, as our transformational goal has always been to convey the effects of human displacement on a community. But we were not able to convey that correctly in our Halves presentation.

The second piece of feedback had to do with concerns with our timeline. At the time of Halves, we were definitely not as far as we could be with our project. Additionally, from here on out, the project is going to be a lot harder to develop due to both timeline and scope concerns.

Action Plan

From these pieces of feedback, we developed an action plan that addresses both as well as help us finish/polish our project by Week 14:

  1. We plan to implement more 2D assets into the scene in order to convey the story of a community being affected by gentrification. 2D assets not only convey more information, but also require less 3D modeling work from the artists.
  2. We plan on mapping out the interactions in a clearer fashion so that the story of the community being displaced is much clearer
  3. We aimed to make the environment more lived in. In this current build, a lot of the assets made by artists were not in the game, so our goals for the latter half of the semester (and before every Playtest Night) is to implement as many assets as possible into every build iteration.

Fall Break

While Fall Break was primarily a rest period of the majority of the team, Danni and Kesha worked together to come up with narrative beats for our iterations. These narrative beats determine how the story will be fleshed out in the coming weeks.
