“Week 9: Mapping the Game Journey”<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This week, we took a deep dive into the player\u2019s experience, meticulously mapping out the game journey across three levels, each representing a day of packing. By outlining specific steps and interactions, we aimed to create an immersive and impactful progression through Bernie\u2019s story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some New Art<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The Artists focused on texturing quite a lot this week. A big focus was to get the environment feeling more lived in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 1: Introducing the Relationships<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Living Room<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The first day focuses on acquainting players with Bernie\u2019s key relationships and their importance. The player is packing up the living room the first day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Players explore Bernie\u2019s apartment, discovering items tied to Peggy<\/strong>, Sammy<\/strong>, and Sukhvinder<\/strong>, each representing a facet of the neighborhood. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Day 2: Exploring the Loss<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    Kitchen<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    The second day delves into how gentrification eroded Bernie\u2019s relationships and the spaces they represented. The player is packing up the kitchen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Players learn of how the community garden, Sammy’s Corner and Sukhvinder have left the space of Lawrencefield.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Day 3: Understanding the Change<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      Bedroom<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

      The final day highlights the forces behind the neighborhood\u2019s transformation. The player is packing up the bedroom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Players uncover how capitalistic pressures<\/strong> led to the loss of culture and identity in Lawrencefield.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        • Old and new letters between Bernie and other characters<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Object Interactions and packing<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Daily Newspaper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Goal for Playtest Day<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

          From this point on, our focus shifted to being content complete<\/strong> by Playtest Day on Nov 9th<\/strong>. We prioritized integrating the full story to test whether our game design decisions effectively supported the narrative and delivered the intended transformational impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
