We failed a lot during this week. Since we decided on the idea of letting players be on the ride, we spent a lot of time testing how to make the camera rig turn smoothly, as trains do not always move in the same direction.
However, after trying for three days, we realized that the rig itself was not suitable for rotation and we gave up on this idea.
The current version is the players will be on the train that always moves forward, and they will need to avoid obstacles and collect rewards on the train (like temple run). And we will let them get off the train at 2 “Shroom Stops” to collect mushrooms.
Tasks we’ve done:
- Make the cart model
- Tested camera movement and animation implementation for the start scene
- Curvy spline test for the movement
- Test the obstacles in the negative space
To-do for week 10:
- Finish 2 animations (see game design part below)
- New terrain (test the riding time on Wednesday, add caves)
- Finish the game flow (before ending)
- Test the obstacle & reward positions on the move; place the mushrooms at the stops
- Voice-over recording on Thursday/Friday
- SFX:
- Train whistle
- Count down
- Avoid obstacles Success sound feedback
- Collect reward feedback sound
Tech
We tried multiple times with rotationg the camera rig and here are the screen recordings. The camera rig was unable to render the view correctlly.
However, we still wanted to let the train has a bit rotation while moving. We tried letting it move left and right without rotating, but the result wasn’t satisfying.
Art
We made the little train model. The next step will be adding the animation based on our new design plan and revise the terrain.

Here’s the game flow we discussed on Friday.
