Week 9

Welcome back to IGT-Lab development blog! Due to most of our team beinga way for the Game Developers Conference, we have a shorter update this week.

Client Meeting

During this week’s client meeting, the main topic of conversation was building a playable MVP as soon as possible. We renewed our focus of what our experience and project goal was, and were encouraged to focus all attention and resources into servicing that goal.

As a result, we have came up with the following goal statement:

  • To design and build a fun, social and immersive in-car rhythm game.
  • The fun aspect was the interactive music listening experience.
  • The social aspect was the collaborative, 4-player interactive game.

The immersive aspect was the projected screens on all windows to create a surround, view & sound during gameplay.

Our current plans to deliver the MVP is as follows:

  1. Fix animation of beat objects spawn & movement
  2. Design and create a visualization of beat hit area (visual feedback of when and where to hit the button)
  3. Enable multiple button press at one time
  4. Merge and migrate Unity build into Isotope.

We have encountered some minor issues around the last point. We learned that the plug-in that we used for reading the MIDI files are not compatible with Linux, thus presenting challenges around migrating it to Isotope. We are currently looking into the documentation to see if there can be a manual workaround, and also considering other options such as FluidSynth which can be shipped to Linux.

Hardware Update

Meanwhile, the PVC pipes and wivel clamps we had ordered to build the ceiling/roof for our simulation platform had arrived. We were able to set it up, draping them over with black fabric to block out outside light.

We have an additional single truss beam coming in, which will be mounted on the front of the rig which will allow us to mount the front monitors on to the beam as opposed to sitting on a table.

We were able to cut an EMT pipe, secured them to the top of the truss to drape black fabric over the front as well.

That is all for this week, and we’ll see you again next week!
