Week 10

We presented the Nova path for the playtest. During the playtest, our goal is to find out people’s reactions, choices they made, and the thoughts on interactions they experience.

Overall weekly progress

This week we have been working on editing the actual live action shoot on March 14, 15, and 16th. We are also preparing for the Saturday playtest day. Our goal for the playtest day is to present Nova’s path to the audience with Lucy’s CG scene and on boarding introduction. This is referring to a visual test on naive guests. We will also take videos of each section. During the playtest, our goal is to find out people’s reactions, choices they made, and the thoughts on interactions they experience.

Progress

Specifically for production we have finished our second process grade. Selena and Felix are preparing for the post questionnaire for the playtest day. Jose is finding ways to make the film not dizzy as it can be for the playtest. Samantha is finalizing the audio for playtest. Selena is working on synchronizing all the sound materials. Lucy is finalizing the junkyard scene. Felix is working on cutting the scene and exporting to Grace while Grace is preparing the two interactivity with the on boarding scene.

Selena was able to synchronize sound editing in rough clip for the shoot day 1 and 2. Samantha was able to work on SFX and foley and learning how to mix 5.1.

Samantha was able to fine tune all details of transitions (NOVA and Julian’s paths). Felix is helping with scene prepare for Playtest which includes AI placeholder scene edits and cut for Tech(Grace) to implement on Unity. Jose was able to create prototype edit of Julian’s path and playtest on Saturday.

Lucy was able to confirmed with Samantha about VFX requirements and removed Victor from live shooting footage (3 pieces):

She was also able to refined the open scene animation, working on replacing the head with Nova’s:

Made a new scriptable object that would pass as parameter the UV coordinates from the gaze reticle. These coordinates are used to check if the user is looking at the coordinates of the mirror in the scene.

I added the video clips to the Unity project and implemented the interactions. With this scriptable object, I can just create multiple nodes depending on the interaction we need and add the clips accordingly.

I play tested the tutorial and found that the triggers worked as intended after getting the video clips, had to go back and forth a couple of times to make minor changes.

Refined the tutorial video and added so it plays the main movie after 1 minute even if the user hasn’t looked at all the screens in the CAVERN.

Looking at the future, Soft Opening is happening on April 9th. We will be presenting both paths of the story with color grading. Samantha will be finishing with the cut for Julian’s side. Selena will be finishing synchronizing all sound materials. Jose will start to prepare for color grading for the soft openings. Lucy will try to finish all the VFX parts while Felix and Grace will try to include all interactive elements.
