Week 11
We are iterating our film through feedbacks we received from Playtest day and preparing for soft opening day.
Key event
We are doing final editing for the film and putting all the things prepare for the soft opening day.

Overall weekly progress
This week we have been working on the playtest day and also reviewing the feedback we’ve received from the playtest day. We are also gathering feedback to help us to prepare for the soft opening day.

Progress
PRODUCTION
In terms of production, Selena and Samantha revised the post questionnaire for the playtest. Samantha conducted an interactivity meeting with Felix and Grace and confirmed workflow. We would like to invite Maya for an ADR session for clearer dialog and voice over.
EDITING
Samantha and Jose are working on fine editing of the Julian path. Felix is working on cutting the scene and exporting to Grace while Grace is preparing the interactivity scenes with the on boarding scene for both Julian and Nova path. Samantha was able to fine tuned details and added scenes to Nova’s Path and handed off Nova’s Path picture lock (for softs) to Jose to color grade. She also set up the premiere file doc of Nova’s Path picture lock on Felix’s computer to ensure handoff to export 40+ (interactivity video clips). We’ve also finished setting up collaboration within Premiere Pro:

Felix was able to prepare for Soft, every material for Tech (Grace) to make the final design.
- He cliped out all Nova and Julian scenes
- Cut out Interactive and non-interactive scenes
- Accurately measure out how and when interactivity works and mark that down.
- Any additional editing, masking job on Premier Pro & After Effect.
- Resize the clips to fit into Cavern
Jose was able to color grading of the full short film:

SOUND
Selena finished replacing and synchronizing all recorded audio for both three days and passed onto Samantha to finalize the audio for soft opening. Samantha begun mixing 5.1 and is creating spatial sound for the opening head rolling sequence. Sound Map of rolling head:

We were also able to reach out to Kristian Tchetchko ( Adjunct Audio Faculty, Lead Engineer & Coordinator of Recording Services with CMU Music and ETC BVW) for advice on possibly doing Foley for the android head rolling.
ART
Lucy is finalizing the junkyard scene and working on VFX. She created a new render of open scene animation with Nova head texture and new cam move:

In terms of live shooting vfx: she add Nova face, fix phone screen, key actor out and move above the mirror:

TECH
Grace had a meeting with Sam and Felix to discuss how the interactions are going to be triggered if the user looks to a mirror on the scene. There are a total of 10 interactions, 3 of them being more complex since they involve two triggers in the scene.
Fixed bugs in the tutorial and changed it so the black images start fading automatically when the user looks at each section.
Fixed a bug in the scene change from the tutorial to the main film scene where Unity was losing track of specific objects like the gaze reticle image and the background image when the film scene played. I created a scene manager script that handles the scene change events and sends a notification to the UVraycaster script when the tutorial scene ends to look for the missing GameObjects.
Implemented a method to skip to the next video clip by pressing the right arrow for easier debugging.

FUTURE PLAN
Looking at the future, Soft Opening is happening on April 9th. We will be presenting both paths of the story with color grading. Samantha will be finishing with the cut and audio for Julian’s side. Selena will be finishing synchronizing all sound materials. Jose will start to prepare for color grading for the soft openings. Lucy will try to finish all the VFX parts while Felix and Grace will try to include all interactive elements.
