2/6 – 2/10
Greetings!
It’s week 4! We’re a third of the way through the semester, but we feel we’re making great progress. We also had a special guest this week. Last but not least, Cora’s birthday was on Wednesday. Happy Birthday Cora!
Concept Art/Storyboards
This week Rei and Angie have started brainstorming the visuals that will play on the projector during the experience. They’ve put them all together in a second version of the storyboard. Here are a few of their ideas.
Playtest results
We have conducted several playtests with our peers and with the faculty of the ETC. They find the experience to be interesting, but we feel that there is much more we can expand upon and refine. We will try and hone in on the parts that guests enjoy and create a more complete experience.
Client Meeting
In our meeting Monday, we updated the client on our progress so far. He wants to go with a more narrative approach. He also requested we focus more on the individual instead of on culture. He is concerned that safe spaces are in danger and wants us to create a sort of safe space with our experience.
Anthony Daniels
This week Anthony Daniels visited the ETC to see and give feedback on the projects. We met with him on Monday and again on Friday. During the Monday meeting, we explained the project to him and he gave us some really insightful feedback. He told us that we need to figure out the personality of the narrator. He also said that we need to make the guest comfortable.
Faculty Meeting
On Wednesday we had a meeting with Brenda. She wanted us to tell the guest who the narrator is. She also suggested bringing more humor into the narrative to disarm the guest to make them be more honest. She also got some games for us to try as well as get inspiration for questions to ask. Another piece of advice that she gave us is that we cannot truly create a “safe space”, because of the public nature of our experience. Even if the guest is alone in the backroom of the GLCR, there may still be people in the rest of the room. We will take this information forward in how we market our experience and how we move it forward.
Advisor Meeting
We had our meeting with our project advisors on Wednesday. They gave us advice on our playtest questions. They also prompted us to consider what sort of playful surprises we could add to the experience.
Script Drafts
We have been working on several different script drafts, each with a different personality for the narrator. Some characters include: an old man who misdialed a number, an alien researcher studying humans, and an archivist who needs you to look up a reference.
Telephones
We got in our telephones to test out this week! We will be experimenting with them in the upcoming weeks. Here’s a picture:
Anthony Daniels Part 2
When we gave Anthony Daniels our new script idea, he was concerned that exposition would make the guests more likely to leave the experience before the questions. Something interesting that he brought up is that we don’t need the narrative to get what we want out of guests. We can directly ask them questions, in a “question of the day” fashion, which will encourage repeat visitors. While we felt that this was a strong idea, this does not meet the needs of our client nor the goals of our project.
Conclusion
We have had a lot of different ideas suggested to us this week. We are carefully considering all of the feedback we have received in order to create the best possible experience for our client.
See y’all next week!
