Milestone 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this week, we have finalized the technology that we are using, and the latency performance is optimized so we can spend the next few weeks to experiment with design. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fabric Test:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The different type of fabric that the performers wear will affect Azure Kinect’s detection accuracy<\/strong>. So we ran a set of fabric tests to see which type of fabric is most suitable for this experience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the tests above, we realized that black jeans fabrics is least detectable.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Then we tested projecting our visual treatments over different color of fabric to see what they look like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Black Polyester Grey Pattern Skirt) The black material does reduce the visual effect, but if the visual effect is strong on itself, the reduced version seems very cool<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

(White Linen) This material is very normal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

(Black Synthetic, reflective) This wrinkled material is great because it blurs the graphic a little bit and also adding its own signature while being casted<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Dim and Darker Environment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had a few tries with the background and we determined that the black background is better for the projection to take place because it blurs the contrast between the dancer’s bodies and the shadow casted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

By making the entire room a bit darker, we can also make extra visual effects using media such as phosphorescent\u00a0paint and all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Projector Arrived<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our new projector: BenQ TK700STi\u00a0<\/strong>arrived and we are now looking at a total of 19ms<\/strong> lag from the projector end. (Originally, the number is 130ms<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calibration Problem<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the weekly meeting with Mo and Heather, we realized that the next technical challenge we need to resolve is the calibration\/alignment of the projection. Right now, the visuals are slightly off-set from the performers, and we need to align it so that the projection and the performers are perfectly matched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next Milestone<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the first milestone is completed, we quickly started looking at the next milestone, which is Week 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of Week 8, we wish to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Software <\/strong>(TouchDesigner) and graphics<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Interactive visuals for body parts and movement (mouth, hands, etc)<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    • Other options.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Hardware <\/strong>and other media:<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Photo fluorescent pigment (Jackson Pollock style onto fabric)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Textured Fabric (pattern of physically textured)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • DMX lighting and UV lighting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
