Candice (Hongxian) Li
Sound and Game Designer
Candice Li is a 3D Animator and 3D Artist currently pursuing a Master of Entertainment Technology at Carnegie Mellon University. Skilled in Maya, Unreal Engine 5, and Adobe Creative Suite, she brings characters and environments to life with a mix of precision and creativity. With a strong passion for storytelling and interactive media, Candice has an eye for detail that helps her create immersive worlds that truly captivate and engage players.
When she’s not working on animation or game development, Candice enjoys diving into her love for art and games through activities like life drawing, creative digital photography, and sound design. She’s always looking for ways to expand her creative toolkit and explore new ways to connect with others through visual storytelling.

Hazel (Qiutong) Yu
AI Programmer
Hazel Yu is the programmer for project Mic Check. She is a game developer with a strong focus on integrating advanced technology into interactive experiences. She has designed behavior trees for autonomous robotics in C++, developed immersive VR/AR environments, and built innovative gameplay systems using Unity and Unreal Engine. Hazel’s expertise extends to app development and machine learning, and she hopes to continue on creating meaningful experience for people.

Kesha Bagadia
Narrative and Technical Designer
Kesha is a Game Designer with a keen interest in narrative systems. With an academic background in Information and Communication Technology, she specializes in creating transformational experiences that blend emergent storytelling with player motivation. Kesha leverages her experience in rapid prototyping to embrace a ‘fail fast, follow the fun’ approach while bringing ideas to life.

Isabella (Xihe) Chen
3D and Technical Artist
Isabella is the 3D and Technical Artist on the Mic Check team. She holds a BFA from New York University’s Game Center, where she studied 3D modeling and character rigging. At ETC, she has developed her skills as a 3D generalist through various BVW projects, while also exploring visual effects and other technical art disciplines. In the future, she aims to specialize as a 3D game art.

Samantha Trimboli
Producer
Samantha has been working as Producer at ETC for the past two years . She has built her skills various BVW projects and semester long projects; Puppamatics and Questline. Samantha graduated from Yale University with a B.A in Computing and the Arts, focusing her studies on computer graphics and animation. Combining her technical knowledge and production experience, she hopes to continue her work as a producer in the gaming industry.

Emily (Yiran) Zhang
Game Designer and 2D/3D Artist
Emily is the game designer and artist in the team, bringing ideas to life through bold art direction, immersive storytelling, and visually dynamic game worlds. With experience in 2D concept art, UI design, and 3D modeling, she specializes in crafting vibrant, cohesive aesthetics that enhance gameplay and player experience. After graduating from the NYU Game Center, Emily further developed her skills and explored new creative possibilities at CMU ETC. With a passion for creating engaging and meaningful experiences, Emily is dedicated to growing as a game designer and pushing the boundaries of interactive storytelling.
Project Instructors

Mo Mahler
Moshe Mahler is an award-winning professional innovator and storyteller whose work has been featured in attractions at Disney Parks and Resorts and shown worldwide at prestigious venues including SIGGRAPH, UIST, Comic Con, and Ars Electronica. For nearly a decade, Mahler led The Creative Technology Team at Disney Research of The Walt Disney Company, where he served as the Principal Artist. Mahler has authored more than 10 technical paper publications at premiere conferences and is an inventor of four issued patents. He has also contributed to dozens of publications in the computer graphics and animation fields. Mahler’s art works and animated films have been featured in a number of venues internationally, including SIGGRAPH 2005, 2007, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017.

Jonathan Walton
Jonathan is an award-winning indie game designer, a former China policy analyst, and a teacher and scholar focused on critical analysis of science, technology, and media. His most recent game is a sit-down freeform larp based on actual documents from the Taiping Rebellion (1850-1864), Personal Testimony from the Last Kings of Heaven, which was named “Game We’re Most Excited About” at the 2021 Golden Cobra Challenge. On the digital side, Jonathan is also a composer of retro video game “chiptunes” music and pixel art, as well as a designer of browser games.
Jonathan looks forward to bringing his eclectic background and deep love of both teaching and game design to the ETC, helping to train the next generation of innovative entertainment designers.
Subject Matter Experts
This project requires a lot of knowlege on Artifical Intelligence and Rap, both of which our team lacks. Our independent research will only take us so far so we are leaning on the support of some extremely talented and generous subject matter experts.
Charles Agriogianis
As a recent alumni of our program, Charlie has agreed to lend his help in the construction of an Gen AI game. He previosuly worked on a similar Chatbot project while attending ETC.
SoulMan IT
SoulMan IT is a teacher of the Hip Hop Orchestra here in Pittsburgh. He has offered to give us advice on the authenticity if rap, this history of hip hop culture, and how to get young adults excited about rap. We are also hoping to playtest with his student later in the semester.
Kenechukwu Echezona
A fellow Carnegie Mellon student that is teach the Freestyle Rap class. Kenechukwu been offering Mic Check advice on the structure of rap battles and how teach noives about the craft.
