Week 8: Refining gameplay

Welcome to our latest blog post, where we share insights and updates from our development journey. Our recent playtest sessions have provided valuable feedback, particularly regarding the relationship between players and their monsters and the mechanism of gathering souls in relation to achieving victory. This feedback has led our team to brainstorming sessions aimed at refining our gameplay mechanics to enhance the overall experience.

Game design

In collaboration with our instructor, we have participated in the weekly game design workshop to explore the potential of new aspects within our prototype. A significant area of focus is the strategic placement of targets, transitioning from the opponent’s head to the monster, which introduces a new dimension of gameplay strategy. These changes might potentially change the winning goal of collecting 3 souls to the HP bar.

Programming:

Our programming team has been working on integrating advanced mechanics for mana and soul collection, accompanied by user interface. These enhancements are designed to provide a seamless and intuitive gaming experience. Additionally, we implement the conditions for winning and losing by collecting 3 souls, ensuring a balanced and fair gameplay environment. However, this might be adjusted based on the new game design in the coming week.

Art:

Our art team has made remarkable progress in character development, with finishing all 3 monster textures, and Nooki’s animations. Below, we offer a glimpse of the latest character developments.
