Week 13 – 4/21/2023

Week 13 marks the second to last week of this semester-long project (not counting finals week). Consequently, we are not planning on making any large changes to our digital prototypes, focusing on documentation instead. We also have soft openings with both the faculty and the alumni this week.

Soft Opening

On Monday, April 17th, we had soft openings with the faculty. Multiple faculty members visited our room and tried several of our prototypes. Unfortunately, due to the number of prototypes, only one group of three faculty were able to try Mission Control while two faculty members only tried the AR Moon Colony and Payload Packing.

Later in the week, we had soft openings with the alumni in the evening. We had two alumni come and visit our room. Both alumni were able to try the AR Moon Colony while only one of the two was also able to try Payload Packing.

Overall, the main pieces of feedback we received were:

  • In-game feedback and UI can be more obvious, larger, and more direct. For example, add text to the tools in AR Moon Colony.
  • What is the overarching purpose of experiences like the AR Moon Colony? What are guests trying to achieve?
  • Lean more heavily into the theming for Mission Control.

We also received some good insights into what gaps we were leaving in our explanations of our project. For example, we had been neglecting to highlight the role of the facilitator in our various prototypes.

Documentation

Our big priority this week was getting a serious start on documentation. Since documentation is a significant part of our deliverable, we wanted to devote most of these final two weeks to working on the documentation.

The documentation is planned to be structured as such:

  1. Overview (Introduction to the Project)
  2. Context
    1. The Moonshot Museum Information
    2. Audience
    3. Goals
  3. Each of the Three Prototypes
    1. Design & Experience
    2. Art
    3. Technology
    4. Sound
    5. Content
    6. Playtesting
    7. Future Steps (including known issues and solutions)
  4. Resources

Review & Looking Ahead

During Week 13, we had our soft opening and received feedback from faculty and alumni. Overall, much of the feedback was out of scope for us to fully change. However, we should be able to detail the issues and the potential solutions in our documentation.

For Week 14, we plan to spend most of our time working on our documentation and final presentation in anticipation of the end of the semester. We will aim to have a version of our documentation done before the end of the week in order to allow our client to review the documentation.
