Week 14 – 4/28/2023

Week 14 is the official last week of the semester, marking the end of this project. For this week, we focused heavily on preparing for our final presentation (happening next week) and writing our documentation. Once we finish our final presentation and documentation, then our project will be complete.

Documentation

Documentation comprises an important part of our project. The prototypes we are making are intended to serve as a starting point for the Moonshot Museum to secure funding and contract design firms to turn the prototypes into final, installation-worthy products. Thus, documentation is needed to both inform future developers about our project and to highlight challenges and areas of improvement.

We worked on our documentation during Week 14. Once most of the documentation content was written, we sent our documentation to our client for him to review on Wednesday, April 26th. Our client promised to read through and comment on the documentation before the next Monday, May 1st.

From there, we will be able to make edits to our documentation in accordance with our client’s wishes. Afterwards, we will be able to submit our documentation to our client and faculty advisors for final approval.

Final Presentation

Our other big priority this week was preparing for final presentations. Final presentations occur on all five days next week with our team scheduled to go Wednesday. That gives us some time to practice and prepare for the presentation next week.

However, we still do need to create a basic outline for our presentation this week. Similarly to our halves presentation, we divided our presentation into an introduction section, a Payload Packing section, an AR Moon Colony section, a Mission Control section, and a summary.

One thing that helped us in our final presentation was our prior work with documentation. This gave us access to a good range of photos and other images for our presentation. We also highlighted elements that we had included in our documentation, such as future development plans, in our presentation.

Final Takeaways

Over the course of fourteen weeks in Spring 2023, our team of six Entertainment Technology Center students created three exhibit/interactive experience prototypes for the Moonshot Museum as well as accompanying documentation. Our three prototypes were Payload Packing, AR Moon Colony, and Mission Control.

For this semester, we experienced the challenges of working on multiple products at once, contrasting many other ETC projects which only worked on one product. Thus, we had to accept our limitations, selectively narrowing our scope, in order to finish this semester.

We also came to appreciate the value of playtesting. Playtesting proved helpful in guiding our design, showing us what was working and where we needed to improve. While we had initially been hesitant about playtesting imperfect builds, we were able to move away from that mindset later in the semester.

Overall, we enjoyed our time working on this project and were able to learn many new things over the course of the semester.
