Week 7 – 3/3/2023

Week 7 marks the end of the first half of the semester. We are halfway through our project and we only have seven more weeks left before we have to submit our final product. As such, our update for Week 7 will both briefly touch on our current project progress as well as our ½ presentation.

Project Progress

By this point in the semester, we’d primarily been working on two out of our three prototypes, AR moon colony and payload packing. We will be working more on our third prototype, mission control, after spring break in the second half of the semester.

½ Presentations

Our team, Moonlanders, was scheduled to give our ½ presentation in the morning of Friday, March 3rd. In preparation for our presentation, we created a rough draft of our presentation and showed it to our faculty instructors. After making a few edits based on their feedback, we rehearsed our presentation in the RPIS.

Our final presentation was generally successful. Our client, Mike from the Moonshot Museum, was able to be in attendance in person. Mike was pleased with our presentation and felt that we had done a good job at representing the Moonshot Museum. However, there were a few areas that we felt we could have explained better. The most prominent was explaining how our prototypes will fit into the current Moonshot Museum experience.

Review & Looking Ahead

For Week 7, our team was focused on ½ presentation, but we were still able to get a few additional features implemented for both payload packing and AR moon colony. These features included basic systems integration on AR moon colony and better UI for payload packing. Our presentation itself was well received by our client. However, there were a few areas in our ½ presentation that we felt could be improved for future presentations.

After Week 7, we will have one week of spring break where we will not be at the ETC. Once spring break is over, we will reconvene to begin the second half of the semester. During Week 8, we anticipate that we will wrap up work for payload packing for now and begin to place more focus on mission control while also continuing to develop the AR moon colony. If there is more time at the end of the semester, we can revisit payload packing.
