Week 7 October 11th, 2024 – 1/2!

This is the check point of entering the middle of the semester.

This week, team MoonRover has been preparing our halves presentation. We’ve refined our demo video which shows our current game design.

Technology Features

  • Digging the mineral

Ver. 1: Actually cut & blast

Pros:  Realistic, physics-based

Cons: Hard to control timing and drilling feedback

Ver. 2: Three stages + VFX + Debris

Improvements:

  • Easy to control digging time and feedback
  • More stylized
  • Players’ awareness of digging progress

Technology Features– Plant growth

We have several key features that we wish to show throughout our game:

Near-future: The near-future setting will inspire guests to envision and imagine the future and become interested in lunar exploration.

Exploration: Exploring the surface of the moon is one of the core gameplay aspects of the game. Through exploration, guests can collect the elements and water ice present on the moon.

Cooperation: The two guests need to control the moon rover and the robotic arm respectively in order to complete the mission efficiently.

Construction: Guests need to collect as much materials as possible to build high level settlements on the moon. Guests can try to build the most advanced moon bases by playing the game multiple times.

Progressive: Guests can gradually expand their exploration by upgrading their moon rover and collecting more elements and Water Ice.

A looping animation of the lander descending through the universe. Then the two players go to the character selection scene and select the role they want to play. Then the lander lands on the moon.

The two guests cooperating with each other to drive one single moon rover to travel through the moon surface, identifying and collecting Elements. Solar panels can be deployed as a side quest when the player reaches suitable locations. They can also upgrade their rover to go further area and collect more kinds of elements.

When they have collected enough elements, they can return to base and build their own lunar city.

In order to transform the environment of the lunar settlements for a sustainable living condition, the final task for the two lunar-explorers is to grow plants inside a dome, which will provide oxygen and food.
