Week 13 – Apr. 18

We’re in the home stretch now! As I mentioned last week, we’re thinking of the game as having two “halves” right now. The first half is everything up until you reach the town, and the second half is everything you do in the town until you can pay the bartender to go through the door at the back of the tavern.

We’re essentially done with the first half at this point, with the exception of missing a cool title screen, which we now have.

Cool title screen

This week, we mainly focused on getting as much of the second half done as possible. Since we’ve already implemented every system we need, that just means getting the dialogue JSONs in, and creating the tilemaps.
The plan is if we finish the second half, we show that off during the final presentation two weeks from now, and if we don’t, we have the first half built and ready to go. Since the first half is basically what we promised to make already, it’s a good backup.

However, we do have quite a bit done on the town already! First off, here’s the tilemap for it:

We also created a survey that we released on our class’s Discord server asking for ideas for NPCs to populate our town, and got a bunch of replies. We can’t make all of them before finals, but we’ve made some progress in the list so far.
