This week, we began refining our pet based on our Softs feedback. We rapidly developed the full hand tracking overlay and guided UI features, which will be our last round of prototyping before Finals.

Full Overlay

We reached an exciting milestone: our overlay system is now functional via hand tracking!

We acknowledge that there’s some lag in the overlay, but as our project is a vertical slice of what’s possible, we’ve prioritized creating a prototype of our ideal design to demo for Finals.

We believe this version captures the core magic we envision—seamless blending of physical and virtual interactions.

Guided UI

To make interactions intuitive, we designed a guided UI system inspired by Animal Crossing’s warm, approachable style. Its clear prompts and cheerful tone align perfectly with our experience’s mood. We’d like to thank Felix for his help with it. For now, it’s a functional prototype, but with more time, we’d develop a more unique visual identity.

Future Horizons: Experimental Extensions

While beyond our current scope, we brainstormed ambitious ideas to expand Luceal’s emotional impact:

  • Eye-tracking for emotional support: Could Luceal leverage the Apple Vision Pro’s eye tracking to detect user emotions and respond with comforting behaviors? This would revive the therapy pet concept, inviting users to open the app when they need comfort. Brian will explore academic papers on affective computing and human-animal interaction to ground these ideas in science.

These concepts remind us why we’re building this—to create connections that feel alive. For now, though, we’re focused on delivering a solid, magical prototype.

We’ll see you again next week when we’re preparing for our Finals presentations!
