(Jan.20- Jan.26)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Week Two: Research and Brainstorming for Our Level Design<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, our team made significant strides in shaping our project by deciding on the level design theme based on <strong>Rifts England<\/strong>. After gathering valuable insights, we reconvened to share our findings and officially kicked off our first brainstorming session, bringing together diverse ideas to shape our level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1012\" height=\"602\" src=\"https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/quessant\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18\" srcset=\"https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/quessant\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-6.png 1012w, https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/quessant\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-6-300x178.png 300w, https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/quessant\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-6-768x457.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1012px) 100vw, 1012px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Using Figma board for research, reference and  comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Individual Contributions:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Albert &amp; Wuji<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collaborated to summarize and analyze gameplay mechanics from a level design perspective.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explored the concept of \u201cUse a Mechanic to Build a Mechanic\u201d to design new gameplay elements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Researched ability designs across various game genres to draw inspiration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lisa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collected visual references focusing on stylized forest environments and shaders.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyzed the level design of the tutorial section in <em>Hogwarts Legacy<\/em> (30-minute segment).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Searched for potential environment models in the Unreal Engine asset store.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yuhuai<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Researched the magic system within the <em>Rifts<\/em> universe to align our gameplay with the lore.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyzed spell-related VFX to ensure immersive and visually appealing magic effects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Xixi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Conducted research and analysis on the intro level of <em>Kena: Bridge of Spirits<\/em>, extracting valuable design elements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set up overall timelines and scope for the project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tianyi<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Investigated the best game engine for our project by comparing asset stores and rendering pipelines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conducted a case study on magic world examples to inform our design choices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ashling &amp; Lisa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ashling focused on analyzing the narrative structure within <em>Rifts RPG<\/em> to ensure authenticity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Together, they set up the overall art direction, establishing a strong visual foundation for the project.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With all the research compiled, our brainstorming session opened the floor for ideas, allowing us to explore creative possibilities and start shaping the core gameplay experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, we are excited to begin translating our ideas into tangible design concepts and prototypes.
