Weekly Schedule

This week, we’re finalizing our project deliverables: wrapping up files, perfecting documentation, making the trailer, and preparing for next Monday’s final presentation.

Also, we’ve received new feature requests from our client, regarding the game and its research data collection APIs. With the project’s end in sight and after the soft opening, our usual approach is to avoid introducing new elements. However, after a discussion with our client and considering our timeline, we’ve come to an agreement. We will implement a selection of the requested features and create comprehensive documentation for the remainder. This documentation will enable our client’s future collaborators to continue the work more easily. Our client was pleased with this plan, and we’re confident in our ability to deliver these last commitments effectively.

ASL Alphabet Photography

Acting on the feedback we received regarding our hint images, we have captured photographs of human hands demonstrating the gestures to enhance our letter selection page. These images were taken in our green room using a simple lighting setup. The final outcome is quite impressive and seamlessly aligns with the game’s overall UI style.

Documentation

In collaboration with our client, we have listed six essential questions to guide our documentation:

  1. How can game parameters be modified?
  2. What are the steps to collect data and analyze the results?
  3. How can the ML model be adjusted, and what options are available?
  4. If I am a new member in the lab, how do I set up GestureQuest using my own computer?
  5. How do I modify the sequence of letters presented for minigames 1,2 and the words presented for minigame 3?
  6. How do I interpret the hand landmark coordinates in terms of position and distance (e.g., what are the units of measurement here, and where is 0,0 positioned)?

Our documentation will lay out the foundational aspects of our project and provide detailed instructions for addressing each of these questions.

Final Iteration & Bug Fix

We’ve made some final tweaks to enhance our game:

  • Refined the score calculation for Game 2
  • Updated the visuals for the speed bar
  • Added a ‘time up’ sound cue
  • Conducted a thorough bug fix

Feel free to check out our latest demo, which is available on the Media page.
