Week 3 Blog: ¼ Walkarounds

Physics Prototype

We now have a draft for the physics prototype. In this experience, players need to solve the puzzle by changing the gravity or other values in the world. In this following tech demo, players can jump to another platform. Our Physics Roblox Demo will include both learning and assessment methods. Instead of the complete level, we will use player performance data like average time to assess.

¼ Walkarounds

This week we have ¼ walkarounds with ETC faculties. We introduced our project and get some feedback. The major suggestion we got is how exactly the ‘design pattern’ is, in the description, we mentioned that the team will create a design pattern to help educational games developers who use Roblox to create games in a way that allows them to collect evidence of student learning in specific subjects but that’s a bit vague so we may want to narrow down the deliverable and goal of this project.

The other feedback includes talking to middle/high school teachers and seeing how they assess students. Also, instead of writing our own design pattern document we should take a look at existing papers and try to apply them in Roblox. We think that could be a good direction for our project deliverable so we will continue working on that.

Next Week

We will have a rough structure of what we will include in the design doc; thinking about what we are going to measure in both demos and how to measure them. For the physics one, we will start prototyping based on the idea we have and for the history, we will continue brainstorming.
