Week 06 focused on solidifying the character identity, aligning physical and virtual space, and completing critical multi-user technical infrastructure. This week significantly strengthened both the experiential and technical foundation of the project.
Character Design Finalization
We completed the robot character design, refining its proportions and silhouette language. Through iterative exploration, we emphasized:
- A top-heavy silhouette
- Sloping shoulders and oversized torso
- Long arms and thin legs
- A helmet-like head and puffy suit-inspired volume
These design choices reinforce the robot’s physical presence while maintaining emotional softness. The character now feels grounded, slightly awkward, and expressive — supporting our goal of portraying the robot as more than a mechanical tool.
Physical Space Scan & Spaceship Environment Design
We scanned the robot room to capture accurate spatial data. This allowed us to:
- Understand real-world scale and constraints
- Inform the layout of the virtual spaceship corridor
- Ensure believable alignment between physical robot movement and virtual architecture
Using the scan as a foundation, we developed the crash-site spaceship environment. We moved from basic gray blockouts to a more atmospheric sci-fi setting, experimenting with lighting, mood, and environmental storytelling. The AI-generated visual direction helped us test how tension and narrative context can emerge from the space itself.
