Week 3

On Monday we went to the Children’s Museum here in Pittsburgh to do some research on LBE installations for kids. We had a lot of fun and we learned a lot about designing experiences for kids.

But most importantly, we realized that our project’s target audience will have to be older than the museum’s. While the activities there are fun, engaging and educational, they are also too simple for what we had in mind for this project. Our first ideas were always surrounding the fact that we’re making a detective game, and detective games are more convoluted and linear than the experiences offered in this museum.

Fun times in the Children’s Museum

Later during the week, we worked on new different ideas by each member, discussed them and narrowed them down for our Quarters presentation.

We worked on our quarters presentation, both the digital and physical aspects of it. And for this we also had to make decisions on our target audience, game design and narrative. We decided to go with a shared, location based, mixed-media interactive experience to be run in libraries or community centers, where kids age 8-12 (and families) are invited to join Jive’s detective agency.

The artists on the team also started working on the drafts for the team logo and half-sheet. We kept the detective theme consistent throughout these designs.
