Visiting La MaMa:

Yes, we went to NYC this Thursday to visit La MaMa’s archive!!! We experienced some unexpected changes with the flights but the trip was great overall. On Friday, Sophie Glidden-Lyon (Archive Digital and Special Projects Manager) showed us around the archive for about 1 and a half hours. Unfortunately, Ozzie Rodriguez, Director of Archive, was not available to do the tour during our stay due to COVID. We started the tour from Ozzie’s office and continued on to the public display area, with poster walls, costumes, and show props, to a designated puppet room. For future reference, we videotaped the tour and took a great number of photos to facilitate our discussion on the items we would be moving forward with.

On the same day, we met with Mia Yoo (Artistic Director of La MaMa) and Billy Clark (Artistic Director of CultureHub) and discussed some key questions to solidify our goal. After the conversation, we were clear that the AR experience will be encouraged after the tour, instead of making it part of the tour, removing our initial concern that AR could distract visitors from the tour guide.

Production:

Due to the annual Grace Hopper Celebration, I (Shan) was in Orlando, Florida and sadly couldn’t join the team for the NYC visit. Although I had a chance to see one of La MaMa’s shows in July, I would love to pay another visit in the following month.

Production was slowed down due to my absence, but we were still considered on track to decide the items and AR interactions next week. No new design, art, or programming progress was made this week.
