{"id":240,"date":"2024-03-29T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-29T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/voxalburgh\/?p=240"},"modified":"2024-04-14T05:03:52","modified_gmt":"2024-04-14T05:03:52","slug":"week-11-playtest-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/projects.etc.cmu.edu\/voxalburgh\/week-11-playtest-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 11: Playtest night"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Week11, We put together everything we made, built the game on mobile devices and brought it to the \u201cplaytest night\u201d to seek feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ve compiled a comprehensive list of features and elements we plan to test:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Can the postcard-sending process be smoothly completed\/do players know what they are doing at each step and what to do next,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How long each step takes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether players can understand the narrative (asking them to retell it)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interface functionality\/readability\/font size\/paragraph length<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UI functionality of the last few pages of the postcard sending process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incorporating narrative text into the UI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Replacing this version&#8217;s UI assets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scanned file entering the scene + testing the stability of real-world scanning<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The display effect of models<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The effect of the postcard shader<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether players will skip choosing stamps\/custom text and the order of customizing text and stamps on the second postcard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether players can understand the connection between the three postcard images (if a 3D effect of the postcard images is implemented, whether players will focus more on the effect,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether players can understand the similarities and differences between the postcards in the game and real postcards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>First impression of the mascot &amp; impression after playing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any moments during the process that start to feel boring<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether the options for replying are reasonable, and if not, whether there&#8217;s a desire to add, remove, or change options.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Playtest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Here are some of the playtest results:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Guests don\u2019t understand what they are doing each step.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guests don\u2019t know the purpose of the postcrossing gameplay.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guests don\u2019t know the difference between the 3 postcards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guests like the tilting interaction of the postcard with 3D scene.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guests get our main idea of cultural integration from the narrative.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Thus, we made several plans to iterate on the questions and set up some goals for the next playtest (Apr6). Some of the plans are as follow:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Add onboarding page using illustration to introduce the context and gameplay.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add tutorials on each step to give specific guidance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change the color and background of the 3 postcards to make them look different.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>User Interface (UI):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UI team has been exploring various styles and has decided to experiment with a design inspired by the visually striking game, Persona 5.
