Week 11 – Playtest Day Feedback

This week is another short one due to CMU’s Carnival Weekend, so the primary goals of this week were to determine tasks based on Playtest Day feedback and continue development on our game.

Playtest Day feedback was incredibly helpful, as it consisted of things we were already thinking about. We were overall super happy that all of our play testers enjoyed the game.

Forms response chart. Question title: Did you like/have fun with the game?. Number of responses: 14 responses.

One important question we asked was ‘What was hard to understand about the game?’. The two primary answers were that the color-changing button was too quick and that the perceived goal of the game (theme switching) was initially hard to grasp. We realized both issues during the playtest and decided that we needed to make color changing easier and that we needed to have visible goals in the game. We had a meeting to decide on the goal of the game, and we opted to have a timed experience with a score system and achievements the player can get. This way, it’s similar to traditional pinball, but more fun as players won’t lose the pinballs.

Additionally, we were not able to get sound in the game prior to Playtest Day, something players noticed right away. This became one of our primary tasks for this week, which William worked on. He created a sound test via video and then implemented the sounds in Unity. The sounds of the bumpers and the ball really bring the experience together, which is exciting.

Finally, we ended the week with goals for what we will implement by Softs, ours being on Thursday. We look forward to seeing what the faculty thinks of our polished experience!
