Week 13 – Water Break and Final Tasks

This week was quite dramatic! Due to water break issues in the building, we were unfortunately not able to work in person for two days (Tuesday and Wednesday). We did still get stuff done as well as was able to present our Softs feedback to our client and Scott.

During our presentation to our advisor and clients, we asked them about possible ways to implement a ‘goal’ for our experience. We ultimately landed on two ideas: Have achievements, but be more obvious about them through UI elements, or have ‘quests’ that the players have to complete in order to unlock different color balls and themes. Scott, John, and Anthony discussed that since we’re creating a pinball experience, it doesn’t really need to be as obvious what the goal is, as most pinball games are not designed that way. They landed on achievements with UI elements as the way for us to go in order to finalize our project, along with implementing a scoring system. Additionally, we were set to continue work on creating the second plunger, fixing up the LED light strip, and starting on the final presentation and documentation for the project.

While the week was short due to the water break, we did have some progress on parts of the project. YC designed a score system that Jasmine implemented. It will show up on the side and through floating rainbow numbers.

Jasmine also worked on small bugs and art changes, including making the colors of the balls more vibrant and implementing achievements. Cynthia and Skye switched out some of their assets, as one of the main pieces of feedback from Softs is that we should take out any copyrighted material.

Additionally,I began working on UI achievements for the game that will show up once the player completes them during the experience.

Finally, William worked on some additional VFXs as well as on the second plunger with David Purta. The second plunger is almost ready to go, but because of the water break, we lost some time building. Finally, we finalized how we were going to prototype the housing unit for the controls.

Because of the delays on the plunger, we are creating a rough prototype of a housing unit to later be rebuilt over the summer. We finalized the basic prototype and should be ready to present it once the second plunger is ready. Finally, we’ve started on documentation and presentation prep, which will highlight the goals of the project and give the next team that is building Full Tilt insight into our design process.

Next Week’s Goals:

  • Finish up production
  • Final Presentation Prep
  • Writing Documentation
