Week 7 – Post Halves and Feedback

Halves is done! We went straight away on Monday, which meant that we got early feedback and were able to speak with Scott about what the faculty thought of our experience.

Overall, the faculty was satisfied with the progress we have made so far. A lot of feedback was excited to see the art and the fact that we were already in the playtest phase. Some were concerned that we hadn’t iterated enough on the design of the entire space, especially the playfield. We later met up with Jonathan, our faculty consultant and a game design professor at the ETC, to discuss playfield design specifically. Jonathan previously taught an entire class about pinball design, so he gave a lot of insight to YC on redesigning the playfield.

Because this week was pretty short (and we had Spring Break the following week), we opted to focus on creating an asset list for the art teams and editing the current build. Jasmine worked on tweaking the physics of the current build, while Cynthia, Skye, William, and I worked on creating an asset list. Since the design wasn’t finalized, YC gave the art team a list of specific pinball pieces that were going to be in the final design. We then added them to a Google Sheet, listed every asset, and assigned them.

Finally, our Half Sheets and Poster arrived! Skye’s design and Cynthia’s logo look stunning in print form!

While this was a short week, we were glad to gain a lot of insight from Halves and hope to bring forth the feedback in our project.
