Fall Break Week

During the Fall Break, we got our Halves Presentation faculty feedback.

Xtension Presentation

Feedback on Delivery:

  • Start with the design process and the significance of the technologies.
  • Clarify if the final format is LBE or VR.
  • Emphasize the project’s main pitch, possibly starting with an “imagine…” scenario.
  • The introduction should be clearer and more engaging.
  • Graphics should better clarify the technology and set up subsequent content.
  • The team was well-rehearsed but could use more energy.
  • The presentation did not clarify key aspects of the user experience like setup time, required quantity, and overall experience duration.

Feedback on Content:

  • Lead with the project’s key message, not a chronological recap.
  • Emphasize the technology’s strengths and how it relates to the narrative.
  • Clearer explanation of the guest’s role and capabilities within the narrative is needed.
  • The game experience and story have potential pitfalls; clarity is required on setup time, comfort levels, learning curves, and objectives.

Product Feedback

Direction:

  • The story is ambitious with potential scope issues.
  • There are concerns about the sensor’s effectiveness, especially with inexperienced users.
  • The narrative’s setting and its resemblance to other games needs reconsideration.
  • The tech should enhance the story, not dictate it.

Plan:

  • The project has a large scope with many dependencies, risking project feasibility.
  • Onboarding time, festival logistics, and playtesting are areas of concern.
  • The tech and story should harmonize for a memorable player experience.

Progress:

  • There has been significant testing, but integration is a looming challenge.
  • Evidence of success so far is not clear.
  • A focus on a particular mechanic, like the haptic suit or gesture feature, might strengthen confidence in the project.
  • A fully working prototype is urgent for testing and iteration, especially considering the holistic experience beyond just tech and tasks.

Tech Meeting With Nextiles:

Also, on Thursday Oct 19th, Thomas, Sher and Harry had a meeting with George from Nextiles and here are some updates:

Technical side: Crap tons of data!

  • I think we are looking at having to cut down on scope because there’s so much data that streams from one sensor. George talked about how we need to set up two separate terminals for two separate sockets for two separate sensors. Ideally we’d want 1 computer PER sleeve, which is kind of out of scope. We might have to either limit the sleeves to just one arm per person, or just have the pilot own the sleeves and the engineer gets a “fake sleeve” that doesn’t do anything.

Design side:

  • We need a sketch of the jacket we want sent to Nextiles by the first week of November at the latest. This sketch should include:
    1. Rough dimensions
      1. Type of fabric
      2. Cuts or velcro straps where needed
      3. Vector file of logo (with color and precise dimensions)
      4. Any other detail we’d like to have on the jacket
  • They are happy to create a jacket with our logo embroidered in them; we should definitely take advantage of that.
