Week 1

Greetings to all readers! We are Xtension, an ETC pitch project that aims to create an immersive and interactive location-based experience using augmented sensory and extended reality. We’re thrilled to introduce ourselves to you. Our dedicated team consists of five talented and hardworking individuals: Thomas Youn, Anthony Renouf, Sheryl Long, Cora (Yilin) Zhu, and Harry (Langxuan) He.

On Monday, the initial day of the semester, we held a meeting with our advisors/instructors, Professor Heather Kelley and Professor Charles Johnson. During this meeting, we reviewed the progress of the Xtension project, set down our core hours, scheduled regular advisor meetings, and clarified the roles of each team member, among other topics.

Team roles:

Thomas Youn: Team Producer and Management, Narrative Designer, Sound Designer

Anthony Renouf: Experience Designer, Engineering Technician

Sheryl Long: Hardware Technician and Software Engineering Programmer

Cora (Yilin) Zhu: UI/UX Designer, Artist and Documentation, Co-Sound-Designer

Harry (Langxuan) He: Hardware Technician and Software Engineering Programmer

Core Hours:

Monday:           10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Wednesday:     10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Friday:              10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Total: 21 hours

We came to the conclusion of utilizing a combination of digital platforms and tangible diagrams to monitor the tasks of individual members as well as the overall team’s progress. Trello serves as our tool for overseeing general and weekly tasks, while we employ physical sticky notes and diagrams to keep track of intricate details. Here’s an explanation of how our usage of Trello functions:

Here is a mood board and mind map of our project, and we will keep adding things and ideas into this:

On Wednesday, Professor Jonathan hosted a Playstorming Workshop on the topic of rapid prototyping methods through brown boxing:

On Friday 3 p.m., we had a Brainstorming Composition Box and Playtest Seminar held by Professor Michael Christel. It was very provoking and provided us with different inspirations of how we could get our playtest resources. Here is how our group’s Composition Box look like:

And that’s pretty much all about this week! We’re looking forward to seeing you and continuing our work next week!
