What is 360 Studio?

360 Studio is an experimental game design project developed by a multidisciplinary student team at Carnegie Mellon Universityโ€™s Entertainment Technology Center (ETC).

Our team is exploring how a 360-degree display can create new forms of shared play. Through a series of short prototypes, we are testing how perspective, movement, physical space, and multiplayer interaction change when gameplay is no longer limited to a traditional flat screen.

At this early stage, our goal is to understand the platform’s unique possibilities. The project will continue to evolve as we prototype, playtest, and refine our direction.

At its core, 360 Studio asks:

How can games designed for a 360ยฐ display change the way people play together?

We are still exploring the answer. Our goal is to discover which interactions truly benefit from the 360ยฐ format and use what we learn to create a compelling multiplayer experience that could not be achieved on a traditional flat screen.
