Bon Appétit! Lets not focus on the mess we can make but how we can clean it up! Friday had what some might call the most failed experimental play-test we have encountered!

Like a broken record we have found that the inconsistency of the colocated world space seems to escape some of our understanding.
Not being able to understand where our objects were spawning in the initialization of the game clearly caused a huge issue… nothing would appear or if it did appear; it would be so far that players wouldn’t notice it. To solve this issue late on Friday one of our programmers created a helper script that takes the root game object, an object that is interactable and is a parent to the rest of the game logic, and snaps it to the first player’s headset location.
There is a small offset to the object. It is mildly noticeable by the first player but much more noticeable by the second and third that join since the object is floating near one player’s head.
Additionally some attempts were made with the assistance of AI to try to figure out a way to work around the built in instantiate tools. Currently if an object is instantiated, each player that joins will have that object spawned. We don’t want that because we want players to have their own set of ingredients and not 50 carrots rolling around in our game. Our current goal is to lock each player’s ingredient set until we can solve a workaround.
Though the technical side of things started its descent into the lows that are the roller-coaster of development, our art team were steaming up with a bunch of new models!
How about a key ingredient for the ants on a log?

Well if you don’t like celery maybe a universally popular protein with some chicken?

Can’t feel full without some satiating carbs like noodles!

The next ingredient is so beautiful you might cry.

For the vegetarians in the room!

Can you make a good sauce without tomatoes?

While our artists were hard at work our UI/UX designer created a workstation for our chef and an A and B work stations for our sous chefs.

Some small plates to hold the Sous chef’s ingredients!
