Week 12

We had so much progress this week! From the stages of the app with their final (or at least really-close-to-final) functionality and UI, to the textured P-51 Mustang 3D model and our physical materials sent to print, we feel confident as a team about where we are in the project and can see how our work in the past few weeks is paying off. We had a site visit with our clients on Thursday to show them what we have, and their excitement and praise were the greatest confirmation of this.

Progress

A quick overview of important milestones:

We have a textured P-51 Mustang (and its components)! Xiaoying finished it this week, and Toby Frailey (part of the MuseumLab team) was quite impressed with the result. This was very important to us, because Toby (as a designer but also an aviation connoisseur) had told us from the start that the airplane model and texture should be as realistic as possible.

We have an app name! This was so hard to decide, because inspiration refused to come to us. We had set up a list of name options that we went over with John Dessler, but they were all too bland or not accurate for our experience. Days later, in asking Ruth about it, we came up with the name “BAM! Build a Mustang“. We all agreed it works and sounds much more fun that our previous suggestions, which included “Operation Aviation”, “Sky Squad”, etc.

The app, as mentioned before, has had considerable improvements in functionality and UI. It might be hard to appreciate them without going through the whole experience, but here are some snippets from different stages of the experience.
