1. Algorithms of City Layout Generation
Last week and before 1/4, we tried to prototype the city layout generation using Subdivision algorithm. It can realize some custom adjustments when dividing the blocks and add some restrictions. However, many factors need to be considered in the generation of historical cityscape of Tang Dynasty, such as the type of blocks, types of residents, cultural characteristics and so on, as well as the internal layout and relationship of each block. We need to dig into more materials and historical facts and develop more appropriate layout generation algorithms for such historical features. In such a situation we encountered some technical difficulties and bottlenecks.
These illustrations above are some interesting references we found in the research process, which can be used as our goals for Half, and also contain some humanistic features. We expect that in the first version of full pipeline penetration and interactive demo, we can have at least one complete procedurally generated building and use this building to generate relatively repeated and fixed blocks. A proper layout algorithm is the difficulty we have to overcome.
2. Simple Building for Testing & Prepare for Merging Assets
In the art direction, we made a simple merging of the base (half bottom) of the building and the roof of the building. Their current combinations do not fit very well, for example, they are not uniform in complexity, and they do not bite each other accurately enough. But in fact, we have encountered many problems and difficulties in the process of merging, such as the loss of subnets, node ineffectiveness, etc.
In the end, however, we have a preliminary full version of a single building that can be used to test the next steps of the pipeline. Next week, we will continue to study the merging processes and methods, and improve the quality of the model itself.
3. Poster and Half-Sheet
The design and production of the Poster and Half-Sheet has been completed. The picture is dominated by historical buildings of Tang Dynasty, with warm colors of retro style. The background is the mountain cluster in a similar ink painting style. Clear shadows make the picture more spatial and three-dimensional. In order to match the style of the picture, the font is also used in a retro brush font, as well as the Logo with the same theme color. The back of the Half-Sheet is formatted as half text and half picture. The gradient of color and light allows them to achieve a perfect match while bringing out the main body of the Project Description and Title. The retro seal script font is still used to make the overall style harmonious.
