Week 7 – 1/2 Milestone

Design Sprint: 5

Overview

  • This week we are heading to our half-presentation on Friday
  • During the first half of the week, we iterated the game
  • During the latter half of the week, we concluded our work so far and rehearsed for the milestone
  • Our main goals in game development for this week:
    • Refine 3d Environment
    • Update some UI assets to make players can send each other signals
    • Fix bugs

Prototype

You can find our updated prototype for 1/2 Milestone at the link below! If you’re playing on a single computer for both players, be sure to mute one of the tabs to prevent sound overlap.

1/2 Milestone Presentation Deck

If you want a structured conclusion for what the project has done so far, we welcome you to take a look at our deck for 1/2 presentation from the slide below👇 We also included a video of a playthrough in slide 13.

Art Updates

3D Environment Update

  • Added a couple of different new houses into 4 neighborhoods
  • Added decoration to 4 neighborhoods to keep reinforcing the theme and make the space fun to navigate

Client Visit & Feedback

Tim, our client, and Peter, the Ph.D. student who would deploy our game in their lab, attended our presentation in person and we invited them to play our game for the first time in person!

[Left] Peter – Explorer; [Right] Tim – Selector
Selecting Process: Peter waits for Tim to finish selecting
Selecting Process: Tim Selecting Bitter Candies from unknown Candies

After the playthrough, our client also gives us some feedback to reflect our iteration in sprint 5:

  • Explorer is expected not to see the actual candies, so in the experiments that our client will conduct later, participants can swap roles without being affected by pre-learned information
  • One of the research objectives is the team dynamics of trust. For better measurement of trust, we should make the submitted leave request pop up in another player’s screen and not disappear until that player confirms it. In this way, Tim and the staff in the lab could use the response time as one measurement.

Future Schedule

Next Week After Break, Maybe…

Update our prototype for the upcoming playtest day next Saturday

  • Update UI to make it easier for naive testers to understand (and like).
  • Iterate Explorer & Selector’s available information on the screen to match this week’s feedback
  • Add and end to the game
