Week 10

After a meeting on Monday, the team has finalized deciding on the art style, gameplay, and mechanics of the game for Looking glass.

Background

In this game, you take on the role of a fast-paced delivery worker racing against time to complete orders. The city skyline is your playground, with towering buildings and narrow ledges forming the path to your destination. Your job is to pick up food from certain spot and deliver it to hungry customers waiting at the finish point. You’ll need sharp reflexes and a keen eye for height differences to navigate the urban maze safely.

Game Flow

  1. The player will spawn in the corner of the map, which consist of buildings with different heights. There are 5 different heights.
  2. The player need to look from the side to check the height
  3. The player will :
    • jump safely to the next platform if the height difference is 1;
    • Stun if the height difference is 2
    • Die and spawn from the starting point if falling from a height difference of 3
  4. Since it’s a timed event, the player will need to give quick reactions:
    • More tips if delivered fast
    • Standard tips if delivered promptly
    • Money deduction if late

Art

The team chose to use low-poly art style to match the vibe of the game.

The different height levels are indicated by the black lines around the building. By adding gaps between buildings, the height difference is strengthened visually.

Main Character

We decided to have our main character to be a cat to better fit the game’s vibe.

We’ve also added a UI at the bottom of the screen to indicate the amount of money earned by the player to give more incentives.
