Week 6

This week the team is mainly working on halves presentation while simultaneously pushing the game to a playable version for demoing during halves.

Game Flow

Background:

The player will be the commander of a starship. The mission is to collect as many rare metals and minerals around the Earth as possible.

Fuel on the vessel is limited, so players must observe and optimize their strategy to minimize fuel costs and maximize the collection of rare metals and minerals.

1.Starship(Player) set sail from the Earth

2. Starship selects direction and fires a laser beam

  • Adjustment: Fires from the center of the screen, direction into the screen. To encourage players to peak from different angles to identify the fire direction.
  • 3rd perspective -> 1st perspective
  • Laser range related to remaining fuel(Can’t go too far)
  • Avoid shooting dangerous asteroids

3. Fly through the firing trajectory to collect exposed metal and minerals.

  • An astronaut will flow around the starship
  • Control astronaut movement to collect metal and minerals
  • Avoid collision with dangerous pieces

4.Repeat steps 2 and 3, until all resources are collected.

5. Starship goes back to the Earth.

Game Flowchart

Plan on gameplay

  • Allow players to go back to Earth to:
    • Take new mission
    • Or sell the material, and upgrade their starship
      • More fuel per shot(more freedom of movement)
  • More combinations and variants of asteroids
    • Collect as different mission instructions

Tech

Visual & Arts

We have updated the default beam to a more stylished firing beam. With the thinner beam, it will become easier for the players to aim the destination precisely. Since we’ve changed the firing direction from upwards to into the Looking Glass, we’ll still need to test whether this VFX works with the updated version.

The cubes placeholders in the scene have been replaced with asteroids. Currently, all the astroids look the same. The team will be implementing different sizes and materials to differntiate whether it’s dangerous or valuable.
