Week 2 – Visit the Museum

This week, we visited our client, Mike Hennessy, at the Moonshot Museum. The Moonshot Museum shares the same location as Astrobotic Technology, which is developing the Griffin Lander for landing VIPER on the Moon.

“Moonshot Museum is Pennsylvania’s first space museum and a unique living lab where you can get closer to the work of space than almost anywhere else on the planet. Through a partnership with Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic, an innovative space robotics company, visitors can peek behind the scenes to witness spacecraft being built through floor-to-ceiling windows.”

The Griffin Lander, built by Astrobotic, will carry and land VIPER on the moon. We can see the Griffin under construction through the window.

This is the place where we will showcase our game. It is a small theater that offers ample space for players to use VR headsets, along with a large screen capable of displaying the VR experience for everyone to see.

Research & Brainstorming

We get inspired by the Griffin and VIPER during the visit, and brainstormed three different ideas.

Art Reference Research

We mad some research on different art style and environment.

Programming

We decided to use Unity as the development tool and use Git for vision control.

Week 1 – We are Moonsters

We are very excited to start the semester and work on the Moonshot Museum VIPER VR project. It’s been a month since we have seen each other and we are really excited to came back together again to work on this project. We are a team of 6, with differen backgrounds, developing a prototype of NASA’s VIPER in VR.This prototype are planning to demonstrate Viper’s camera function in a fun way.

Meeting our Client

Moonshot Museum is Pennsylvania’s first space museum and the first museum in the world to focus on career and community readiness for the 21st century space industry. Along with their partner, Pittsburgh space robotics company Astrobotic, Moonshot Museum’s mission is to inspire a diverse community to find their place in the future of space exploration.

We had the pleasure of meeting Mike Hennessy, the Manager of Learning & Programs of Moonshot Museum and our project client. His enthusiasm and expertise in Moonshot and NASA’s VIPER assisted us in brainstorming and addressing questions.

We will visit the Moonshot Museum the next Friday, to gain more details about the project.

Production

The team production tool will be a combination of Monday, Google Calendar, and Google Drive. We have separated the roles, and our team cohesion is now quite clear and robust.

Design

We have found some game references for our project.
