Week 10 3/18 – 3/22
Programming
To open more possibilities in forms of interaction, Annie used projection mapping as well as physical computing. She used the tempo to change the lighting of a 3D scene, then projected it onto the bed. Another projection was made with Madmapper besides Unity. She built a cardboard tent with Yawen, Anna and Cassie. Then she mapped the 3D scene and two other 2D scenes onto the ceiling and two walls with windows of the tent. For the physical computing part, she used a touch sensor to control the appearance and disappearance of elements in the scene.
Hardware and Illusions
Cassie and Angie worked together to create a moodboard that captured the feeling of bedrooms in the late 90s and early 2000s. While Angie was out at GDC, she created a rough sketch of what a full room installation focusing on nostalgia could look like while Cassie created a collage, both using inspiration from the moodboard.
Using these idea, Cassie created another collage which included the idea of having a tent over the bed, which let guests feel cozier and more comfortable in the space, as well as giving us a surface to project map on to. Since the tent creates an enclosed space, it allows the guest to get away from the outside noise to only focus on themselves and fully immerse in the emotions.
Art
This week, we explored different interaction possibilities of the content corresponding to the music beats.
Yawen used After Effects to make the cable car change size, color, and movement based on the beats of the music. Also Yawen worked on the style guide of the content.
Anna worked in p5.js to explore the interaction between the hill and the music beats.
Kira explored generative art via Touch Designer.
Conclusion
The instructor Mo very appreciated this week’s interaction exploration. He said the exploration let him see more possibilities of the project. We got the feedback from Deeplocal that they wanted to see a more organized presentation next week which includes a last week quick review and storytelling aligned with the presentation. We planned to spend more time on the presentation for next week’s presentation.
