Week 9

This week, we continued refining our environments based on feedback and testing.

  • We adjusted the playground from an open layout to a more enclosed environment to prevent players from falling through gaps, while still keeping some visibility and exploration feeling.
  • Added a tree-like installation in the gallery to display ETC student group photos from different years
  • After group discussion, we decided to change the chat lounge into a park to introduce an outdoor space and create a more relaxed and natural setting for conversation
  • Tested Rec Room’s seating function with our customize assets. We use our own models to cover the Rec Room official seats, and it works.
  • Working on the music/ambience sound
  • We also continued organizing gallery content and setting up an official ETC account in Rec Room for uploading custom assets.

Challenges

  • Rec Room’s built-in features are limited, so many interaction ideas we initially planned are not feasible, such as restart the room for minigame. We need to shift our focus of playground from gaming to exploring.
  • The process of uploading assets and publishing rooms is complex and time-consuming, and we are still working to fully understand the pipeline.

Plan for Next Week

  • Continue polishing all environments & features
  • Fully run through and stabilize the asset and room publishing workflow
