We are Spelunx, an interdisciplinary team from Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), working to make development for the CAVERN more accessible for students and future developers.
The CAVERN is a 270-degree stereoscopic immersive space at the ETC and expanding to local Pittsburgh high schools. However, creating experiences for this space has historically been challenging: complex setups, limited documentation, and a steep learning curve.
United by our passion for novel immersive platforms, technical problem-solving, and user-focused tool design, we gathered together and pitched this student-initiated project! Working closely with target users and key stakeholders, we’re building the CAVERN Toolkit – a Unity-based development package – to streamline and augment the current development pipeline.
